Role Overview

Alstom is seeking a highly skilled In Service Support Technician to join our team in Birmingham. As a key member of our Services Central Engineering team, you will provide technical expertise and support to the project monitoring, recording, and reacting to in-service failures on the new Class 730 fleet.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure work is performed in a safe and effective manner in accordance with relevant health and safety regulations and Alstom procedures.
  • Provide technical telephone support to drivers and customers.
  • Continually monitor units in service using the Fleet Monitor tracking system.
  • Provide technical support to depot teams in fault finding and train repair activities.
  • Have extensive knowledge of 3-phase, single-phase, and DC power systems and control systems.
  • Record and report faults, gather data, and communicate verbally.
  • Carry out fault finding and investigate intermittent faults on vehicles in service.
  • Control and monitor repeat failures of units.
  • Organize and control all aspects of failures in service.
  • Liaise with the on-duty Production Manager to determine rescue plans for failed units and replacement units.
  • Attend and assist failed units in service.
  • Contribute to increasing rolling stock reliability and preventing anomalies in commercial services.
  • Provide on-train fault diagnosis and rectification for units in service.
  • Investigate technical problems as instructed by the project support engineering team.
  • Participate in gathering data downloads on critical performance systems.
  • Undertake test runs to assist in fault finding and resolution of faults.
  • Provide technical support in connection with special checks and experiments.
  • Liaise with systems support engineers and specialist engineers as necessary.
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with Train Care Centre quality and safety procedures.
  • Assist the Warranty Engineer in executing his responsibilities.
  • Drive the company vehicle to attend outstations or failed units when necessary.

About You

We value passion and attitude over experience. We're looking for someone with electrical-based NVQ Level 3 in rolling stock or aircraft, practical experience, and a sound knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and electronic engineering aspects of modern Electric Multiple Units. You should also have IT skills, flexibility, and adaptability, as well as self-motivation and a willingness to carry out activities that add value to the job.
