Job Description

Main Purpose:

  • To oversee a diverse portfolio of casualty claims for both delegate authority business and direct on a Lloyd's and MGA platform.
  • Experience in managing US and RoW casualty, E&O and D&O, medical malpractice, financial institutions, general liability, reinsurance, warranty and indemnity, and US marine and energy liability claims.
  • Optimise spend and achieve high levels of satisfaction for the insured and broker through high-quality claims management, resolution, and excellent client service.
  • The role involves reviewing claims data and underwriting documentation to ascertain the validity of losses notified, handling claims from notification to settlement, appointing and managing lawyers, DCA's and adjusters, coverage reviews, and attending mediations if applicable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Experience of negotiating settlements, attending market meetings, and authorising claims.
  • Responsible for managing the casualty claims portfolio from notification to closure, investing the necessary level of involvement required for each claim depending on the nature, category, maturity, type, and value of the claim.
  • Being the technical referral point for all claims staff.
  • Developing, documenting, communicating, and executing claims strategies taking into account uncertainties, key decisions, potential outcomes, and estimated associated costs.
  • Reviewing individual claims within the portfolio and keeping reserves and records up to date as required.
  • Identifying issues and trends in the portfolio and taking appropriate and/or corrective action.
  • Providing input to underwriters on review of potential or existing insured's claims experience.
  • Reporting and analysing claims trends and developments and their potential impact on the book.
  • Attend external events to network in the market and to continue to build the company brand.
  • Working closely with underwriters, finance, and claims teams in London and overseas as necessary.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • An excellent knowledge of US and RoW casualty claims gained from a minimum of 8 years' experience in the industry.
  • In-depth understanding of the London Insurance Market from both a Lloyd's and Company Market perspective.
  • Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualifications or university degree desirable but not essential for the role. A legal background/qualification would be advantageous.
  • A results-oriented professional.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ensure compliance with company and other relevant standards and regulations.
