Cranfield - a 3-day office schedule and 2 days of remote work are expected. This role is a long-term contract, with a duration of 12 months and potential extensions.

We are recruiting an Automotive Design Engineer for a globally recognized automotive company based in Cranfield. The ideal candidate will be part of a cross-functional global team and work on various projects.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop parts at the module level.
  • Collaborate within a global team to achieve project goals.
  • Manage Bill of Materials (BOM) applications from vehicle and styling specifications.
  • Create and implement part validation plans for suppliers.
  • Evaluate supplier performance regarding cost, quality, and timing.
  • Meet safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze and report on part cost performance versus budget.
  • Perform root cause analysis of technical issues and manage Quality Control Test (QCT) processes to ensure efficient solution adoption.
  • Manage design releases and revisions to meet project milestones.
  • Conduct design reviews before major project milestones.
  • Support global strategies by considering European customer feedback and competitor benchmarks.
  • Achieve cost targets and reduce piece prices/VT costs.
  • Achieve quality targets, including part performance, specifications, NEVQS, and warranty standards.
  • Maintain Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Develop solutions for development and market concerns.
  • Deliver designs on time to support milestones and builds.
  • Show independence with minimal supervision.
Requirements:
  • A degree-level qualification in design or engineering.
  • NX CAD skills (not limited to CAD engineer roles).
  • The ability to articulate complex ideas to a global audience.
  • Familiarity with datum concepts and geometrical tolerancing.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Prior experience in automotive design and development.
  • Knowledge of Body & Exterior manufacturing processes, especially metal pressing/forming and injection moulding.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
  • Familiarity with European regulations for body/exterior parts.
  • A valid driving license and ability to travel globally.
  • The capacity to adapt quickly to new internal processes, portals, and documents.
