Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Specialist Pharmacy Technician to join our team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Manager in the delivery of clinical trials within the Trust.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Manager in the delivery of clinical trials, ensuring compliance with Trust guidelines, protocols, and policies.
  2. Provide professional input to the Sponsor regarding the legal procurement of Investigational Medicinal Products (IMPs) in line with clinical trial legislation.
  3. Review contracts for clinical trials involving pharmacy services and perform in-depth reviews of clinical trial proposals that include IMPS.
  4. Continuously review and develop Trust policies to protect trial participants involved in clinical trials containing IMPS.
  5. Liaise with the Trust R&D department and Lead Directorate Pharmacists to ensure sufficient resources are available for clinical trials.
Leadership and Management
  1. Act as a role model for Pharmacy Technicians, junior pharmacists, and pre-registration pharmacists.
  2. Promote best practice and evidence-based prescribing through prescription monitoring.
  3. Deliver the clinical governance agenda in relation to medicines used in clinical trials.
  4. Follow agreed clinical governance initiatives, including incident/error reporting.
Clinical Practice and Governance
  1. Participate in the checking of prescriptions and counsel patients on medication use.
  2. Demonstrate professional accountability to patients and deal with queries and issues from patients and research staff.
  3. Effectively manage informal complaints and make appropriate referrals when necessary.
  4. Demonstrate awareness and commitment to the Trust's Clinical Governance Agenda.
Education and Training
  1. Support the Pharmacy Clinical Trials Manager in co-ordinating clinical trial induction and Good Clinical Practice Training for the Pharmacy Department.
  2. Develop and manage training for pharmacy, medical, and non-medical staff on aspects of clinical trial management of IMPS.
  3. Provide updates to Principal Investigators and research team members on IMP management.
  4. Participate in the training and supervision of pharmacy technicians, junior pharmacists, and pre-registration pharmacy graduates.
Other Duties
  1. Participate in education and training programmes to develop skills and maintain a commitment to continuing education.
  2. Be aware of and apply relevant legislation, including the H & SAWA, COSHH, Medicines Act, and GMP.
  3. Practice in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
  4. Act as a line manager for junior technical staff as needed.
  5. Follow legal, ethical, professional, and employers' codes of conduct.
