About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a talented Senior Commercial Manager to develop and implement commercial strategies, produce commercial model options analysis, and provide expert advice to major project and programme teams.

The ideal candidate will have excellent leadership skills, be able to build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and possess a deep understanding of commercial principles, procurement laws, and government policies.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and implement effective commercial strategies that support the achievement of organisational objectives, including the assessment of commercial models and identification of best practices.
  2. Provide expert advice and guidance to senior management on commercial matters, ensuring alignment with Agency governance principles and commercial functional standards.
  3. Lead on the development of commercial life cycle approaches, supporting the needs of both in-year and medium-term projects, while maintaining consistency with Agency standards.
  4. Engage proactively with suppliers and grant recipients, reviewing proposals, change requests, and deliverables, and providing recommendations to ensure excellent commercial outcomes.
  5. Support the delivery of training and awareness programmes for Agency staff on procurement matters, ensuring they are equipped to navigate complex commercial environments.
  6. Foster positive working relationships with colleagues across DSIT, UK SBS, and wider government departments, driving collaboration and innovation.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Significant experience in commercial strategy development and implementation, preferably within a public sector or similar environment.
  • A deep understanding of commercial principles, procurement laws, and government policies, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a fast-paced context.
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and drive informed decision-making.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
