Tradewind Recruitment is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an English Teacher to join a specialist SEND school in West Cumbria. The school caters to students with autism, and we are seeking a dedicated teacher to work with secondary-aged pupils, with a focus on leading English lessons.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for teaching English and experience working with students with special needs. The school has a supportive and collaborative environment, with small class sizes and a maximum of 6 pupils per class. The role will involve teaching English across different ability secondary-aged classes in the mornings, with afternoons dedicated to cross-curricular, topic-based learning and ASDAN.

We are open to hiring a primary-trained teacher who has experience teaching pupils with special needs. The school has fantastic on-site facilities for children with autism, and the SLT and staff pride themselves on providing an environment and curriculum where pupils will be happy.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Teach English to secondary-aged pupils with autism
  2. Lead English lessons and develop curriculum content
  3. Work with students of mixed ability, including those working at GCSE level and Functional Skills
  4. Collaborate with colleagues to develop cross-curricular learning
  5. Support students with ASDAN and other special needs
Requirements:
  1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
  2. Demonstrable experience and passion for teaching English
  3. Ability to engage and inspire students in a specialist SEN setting
  4. Strong subject knowledge and the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual student needs
  5. Fully enhanced DBS check
