English Teacher Opportunity at SEND School

Tradewind Recruitment is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an English Teacher to join a specialist SEND school in West Cumbria, catering to students with autism.

The school requires a dedicated English Teacher to work with secondary-aged pupils, with a focus on leading English lessons. The pupils are of mixed ability, working from GCSE level to Functional Skills and ASDAN, with some students requiring differentiation for Key Stage 2 level.

The role involves teaching English across different ability secondary-aged classes in the mornings, with afternoons dedicated to cross-curricular, topic-based learning and some focus on ASDAN. While a secondary-trained English Teacher is desirable, the school is open to hiring a primary-trained teacher with experience in teaching students with special needs.

The school boasts excellent on-site facilities for children with autism, with small class sizes (maximum 6 pupils per class) and 2-3 Teaching Assistants in every classroom. The Senior Leadership Team and staff pride themselves on providing a supportive environment and curriculum where students can thrive.

The position is a long-term, full-time opportunity, with a permanent contract likely to become available in the future for the right candidate.

Requirements:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
  • Demonstrable experience and passion for teaching English
  • Ability to engage and inspire students in a specialist SEN setting
  • Ability to demonstrate resilience, patience, and a positive approach to behaviour management
  • Strong subject knowledge and the ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual student needs
  • Fully enhanced DBS check

The pay scale for this SEN English Teacher position is in line with the Main Pay Scale (MPS) / Upper Pay Scale (UPS), offering a competitive salary based on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
