Job Introduction

Tarmac is seeking a skilled individual to join our team as a Multi-Skilled Operative. We value diversity and inclusivity, and we encourage applications from candidates with a variety of backgrounds.

The successful candidate will be responsible for operating machinery, including loading shovels, excavators, and mobile crushers, as well as performing day-to-day maintenance of the plant and maintaining high levels of housekeeping.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate aggregates on site and use machinery to produce dry aggregates material for the construction industry.
  • Perform day-to-day maintenance of the plant and maintain high levels of housekeeping.
  • Train and operate on static plant operations to drive plant optimisation.
  • Work with other team members to ensure customers receive good quality material and on-time deliveries.
  • Maximise plant availability.
  • Perform weighbridge duties.
  • Use loading shovels, excavators, and mobile crushers.
  • Assist the supervisor with meeting daily/weekly production targets.
  • Maintain a culture of zero harm and behavioural safety.
  • Comply with health and safety measures around the site.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working in a similar aggregates environment or an industrial or factory environment as an operative or labourer.
  • Good communication skills and a desire to develop operative and supervisory skills.
  • Knowledge of the industry, plant, and ideally quarrying.
  • Previous experience in mobile plant operations using loading shovels, excavators, and mobile crushers.
  • Flexibility and ability to work as part of an effective multi-skilled operative team.
  • Self-motivation and ability to motivate other colleagues in the team.
  • Knowledge of risk assessments within the role of operative and knowledge of SSOW (HIRA) and permit systems (preferred but not essential).
  • Compliance with company policies, targets, goals, and standards.
  • Good timekeeping and flexibility to meet unit requirements.
  • Good communication skills and ability to bring problems to the attention of line management.
  • IT literacy.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Shovel licence (desirable).
  • Excavator licence (desirable).
