Job Title: Surveillance Officer

We are seeking highly motivated and dynamic individuals to join our Surveillance Academy as Surveillance Officers. As a Surveillance Officer, you will be part of a dedicated team utilizing the latest surveillance techniques to help tackle serious crime.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Work collaboratively with a talented group of individuals to deliver for communities affected by serious criminality.
  • Undertake a demanding training programme, receiving personalized guidance and support at all stages from an allocated mentor and the surveillance training unit.
  • Display the highest levels of integrity, personal commitment, and flexibility in your work.
  • Contribute to the development of a diverse and inclusive team, reflecting the communities we serve.
Selection Process:
  1. Compulsory attendance at a 2024 surveillance academy discovery session prior to applying.
  2. Application process, including registering your interest and attaching current proof of hearing, eyesight, and fitness tests.
  3. Attend Regional Selection Process (RSP) and National Surveillance Selection Process (NSSP) exercises, designed to test your aptitude for surveillance.
  4. CVF-based interview for Sergeants only.
  5. Management (MV) and Security Check (SC) vetting.
  6. Standard driver training and advanced driver training.
  7. Surveillance field training and College of Policing national surveillance course.

Following the College of Policing 5-week surveillance course, you will need to complete a surveillance portfolio and training program within 12 months of starting your posting, evidencing your competence within the role.

Additional Information:

This role is subject to successful completion of Security Check vetting. You may be subject to voluntary drugs and alcohol testing and will be asked to voluntarily give a DNA elimination sample. To remain operationally effective, it is essential that the profile of the team reflects the communities within which we work. Due to the nature of the role, unsocial working hours, travel across the region, and shift changes at short notice are possible. Prospective officers and staff must be held to a higher standard of behaviour and accountability than members of the public. Vetting and medical checks will be required prior to commencing the role.
