Head of Laboratory Operations

Avantor is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Laboratory Materials Manager to join our leadership team in Cambridge, UK. In this role, you will be responsible for managing scientific consumables for 2,500+ scientists and leading a team of stock service leads and line reports.
About the RoleThis is a full-time permanent position based in a brand-new facility at the customer site - The Discovery Centre, Bio-Medical Campus in Cambridge. We offer a competitive salary, annual bonus, pension scheme, private medical and dental care, and additional day off for your birthday.
The TeamYou will join a team of seven highly skilled Managers, each a Subject Matter Expert in their respective fields. As a Laboratory Materials Manager, you will have direct responsibility for the Stores Service Lead and the Stores team, who manage the inventory of consumables, reagents, and chemicals.
Key Responsibilities- Manage scientific consumables for 2,500+ scientists
- Lead a team of stock service leads and line reports
- Develop and implement inventory management strategies
- Collaborate with multiple business functions such as Science, Procurement, and Account Management
- Ensure timely deliveries and best value for scientific consumables
- Bachelor's degree in supply chain, a science-related field, or equivalent experience in laboratory operations
- Extensive experience as a Scientific Materials Manager in the fast-paced pharmaceutical industry
- 3-5 years of experience in line management, including coaching and motivating large teams or service leaders
- Proven expertise in quality and stock management
- Experience collaborating with multiple business functions
- Senior point of contact for scientific consumable delivery, inventory management and reporting
- Ability to ensure the best value and timely deliveries to the laboratory space
- Effective engagement and communication with customer's Governance, Procurement and Scientific functions
- Delivering a robust performance management strategy to direct reports
