About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Acute Stroke Team at Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust. As a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing assessment and intervention to patients with acquired communication and swallowing needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide assessment and intervention to patients with acquired communication and swallowing needs in an acute stroke environment.
  • Support junior colleagues, including newly qualified Speech and Language Therapists and Speech and Language Therapy Assistants, through clinical and peer supervision.
  • Be involved in complex discharge planning and mental capacity assessments.
  • Participate in daily multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care and ensure Speech and Language Therapy goals are embedded in the overall patient management.
  • Deliver Speech and Language Therapy intervention against a Stroke Sentinel Surveillance (SSNAP) rated service.
About the Team

The Speech and Language Therapy Service in East and North Hertfordshire is an integrated acute and community service covering community clinics, inpatient Neurological Rehabilitation, and the Acute and Stroke teams based at the Lister Hospital.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

A recognized Speech and Language Therapy degree.Health Professions Council (HPC) registration and a valid license to practice.Membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT).Achievement of Dysphagia competencies.Evidence of successful completion of specialist postgraduate short courses relevant to the adult caseload.Membership or attendance at Special Interest Groups relevant to the post.Experience relevant to an adult caseload, including management of dysphagia in acute, rehabilitation, community, and outpatient settings.Able to demonstrate the application of in-depth, new, and ongoing learning and experience to clinical practice.Experience in the provision of training for others.Well-established knowledge of assessment tools relevant to an adult client group, including dysphagia, dysphasia, dysarthria, dyspraxia, dysphonia, dysfluency, and dementia.Well-established knowledge of a range of relevant therapeutic interventions relevant to the client group.Knowledge of professional standards, including record keeping.Well-established knowledge of the management of people with progressive neurological conditions.Knowledge of the range and applications of communication aids.Knowledge of the application and protocol for use of videofluoroscopy.A good understanding of the roles of other professionals in acute, rehabilitation, and community settings.Well-established knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to adults.A good understanding of the application of research and audit systems.Understanding of the principles of clinical governance.Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Attainment of Videofluoroscopy competencies.
