The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality support and assistance to women and children affected by domestic abuse, ensuring their physical, mental, and social wellbeing. This will involve creating a safe, confidential, and supportive environment that respects the dignity and individuality of each resident.
The role requires excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop strong relationships with colleagues, volunteers, outside agencies, and service users. A good understanding of domestic abuse issues and the statutory framework is essential, as is the ability to speak at least one of the following languages: Urdu, Hindi, Mirpuri, Punjabi, Gujarati, Bengali, Farzi, Pushtu, or African languages, particularly Somalian.
The Domestic Abuse Refuge Practitioner will work closely with the Senior Services Manager to participate in the day-to-day running of the supported refuge accommodation, ensuring efficient and effective service delivery. This will involve identifying and developing support strategies to meet the needs of women and children affected by domestic abuse, as well as providing high-quality case work, 1:2:1 support, and advice to victims/survivors.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a DBS check at the relevant level.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide direct support and assistance to women and children affected by domestic abuse.
- Assist the Senior Services Manager in the day-to-day running of the supported refuge accommodation.
- Identify and develop support strategies to meet the needs of women and children affected by domestic abuse.
- Provide high-quality case work, 1:2:1 support, and advice to victims/survivors.
- Provide safety planning and undertake regular risk and needs assessments.
- Work with women to identify their support needs and incorporate these into their Individual Support Plans.
- Lead on referrals into the community team, developing and delivering a range of support services to women and their children.
Person Specification:
- Good general level of education.
- Good knowledge of domestic abuse issues and the statutory framework.
- Good understanding of referral processes.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop good relationships with colleagues, volunteers, outside agencies, and service users.
