About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Maintenance Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Highway Maintenance team, you will be responsible for planning, programming, and implementing highway maintenance activities in Richmond and Wandsworth.

You will work closely with our Principal Highway Engineers to develop and implement effective maintenance strategies, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our highway network. Your expertise in highway maintenance, contract management, and health and safety legislation will be essential in delivering high-quality services to our customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess highway defects, agree remedials, estimate, plan, and programme repairs through to completion.
  • Measure and agree payment applications made by contractors.
  • Supervise works on the public highway and produce accurate and detailed site reports.
  • Chair meetings and monitor contractors and their employees.
  • Have good knowledge of CDM and other relevant highway legislation.
About You
  • You will have a background in contract management and highway specification contracts.
  • You will understand street works and permitting on the public highway.
  • You will be a good communicator and have confidence to deal with people at all levels, including members of the public, council officers, and councillors in writing and by telephone.
  • You will have a proven background within a highway engineering discipline.
  • You will be able to attend to emergencies and planned works at short notice, which may include work at night or weekends.
