Are you passionate about shaping the future of archaeological consultancy? AECOM is seeking an experienced Principal Archaeologist to join our dynamic Heritage team in Basingstoke, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, and Leeds offices. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in delivering high-quality projects across various sectors, including renewables, defense, water, and infrastructure.

As a Principal Archaeologist, you will be responsible for leading and collaborating with colleagues to deliver projects from initiation to post-consent mitigation. Your expertise will be invaluable in ensuring the highest standards of quality, health and safety, and client satisfaction.

We are looking for a seasoned professional with a proven track record of delivering cultural heritage desk-based assessments, heritage statements, and environmental statements. Your experience in a heritage consultancy environment, combined with your knowledge of the UK planning system and British archaeology, will be essential in driving project success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and collaborate on project delivery, ensuring timely and high-quality results.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, colleagues, and other discipline leads.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to enhance AECOM's heritage offering and drive business growth.
  • Provide mentorship and training to junior staff, promoting knowledge sharing and skill development.

Requirements:

  • Relevant first degree and/or post-graduate qualification in archaeology.
  • Appropriate level of membership of the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists or equivalent.
  • Technical and analytical skills, with excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
