Hourly Rate: £79.17 per hour (Inside IR35)

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Electrical Design Engineer to join our team on a 6-month contract basis. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing technical support to the Engineering Manager and external specialists during the development and analysis of platform power systems.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Design Solutions: Develop design solutions to agreed time, cost, and quality in accordance with project or business milestones.
  2. Requirements Management: Develop and manage requirements and acceptance criteria specific to a system or product and/or across a system of systems, platform, or programme.
  3. Contractual Compliance: Understand the contractual and performance requirements for various systems and support the definition and associated acceptance criteria and events through design, build, integration, installation, and commissioning activities.
  4. Documentation: Produce documentation required to support the design review process, including diagrams, technical specifications, supporting calculations, design evidence, and justifications.
  5. Design Proving Evidence: Ensure design proving evidence is comprehensive, captured within the requirements management tools, and has been endorsed by the appropriate level of authority.
  6. Compliance: Ensure compliance against contractual requirements and that work is undertaken in accordance with company, safety, environmental, contractual, and local business processes, standards, procedures, and documentation.
  7. Design Reviews: Undertake design reviews and presentations to customers.
  8. Technical Support: Provide technical support to integrated performance and acceptance activities, including acceptance of equipment from suppliers through to system acceptance by the customer.
  9. Supplier Documentation: Review relevant supplier documentation and ensure it is captured and recorded appropriately.
  10. Estimates and Bids: Support the development of estimates for the scope of work and resources required to deliver it in order to support bids, proposal development, and project planning activities for various systems.
  11. Certificate of Design: Provide support to the Certificate of Design activities appropriate to the discipline and articulate and present complex technical arguments clearly, logically, and simply.
  12. Technical Input: Deliver technical input and engineering solutions in support of build activities, defect resolution, and change management.
Requirements
  1. Technical Report Writing: Technical report writing skills.
  2. Engineering Lifecycle: Demonstrable experience of engineering lifecycle.
  3. Defence Standards: Knowledge and experience in defence standards, whilst not essential, would be an advantage.
  4. Power Systems: Understanding of at least one of the following areas: Power system modelling, generators, switchgear, protection, power electronics.
  5. Power Systems Architecture: In-depth understanding of at least one of the following areas: Power Systems Architecture, Power Systems Modelling (Simulation and Analysis), Power Generation and Distribution - both AC & DC, Power System Protection and Co-ordination, Power System Operation, Power Electronics, Power System Earth Fault Monitoring.
  6. Engineering Role: Experience of working within a relevant Engineering role to industry codes and standards.
  7. Complex Design Programmes: Experience of working in complex design programmes.
  8. Electrical Power Systems: Experience of working on Electrical Power Systems covering elements such as Low Voltage AC, DC, Electrical Distribution, and Protection, Lighting Systems, and Power Systems Modelling.

  7. Test Procedures: Developing test procedures.
  8. Factory Acceptance Tests: Attending factory acceptance tests.
  9. Equipment Configuration: Configuration and testing of equipment.
