The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced mechanical systems for our mission-critical products. Based in Edinburgh, you will work closely with our multidisciplinary team to deliver cutting-edge systems for global defence and aerospace markets.

The Role

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be responsible for the end-to-end development of mechanical systems, taking ownership of product design from concept to completion. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing innovative mechanical solutions using 3D CAD software.
  • Conducting stress and thermal analysis to ensure products meet technical, safety, and quality standards.
  • Leading and supporting design reviews to ensure technical accuracy and adherence to requirements.
  • Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and development-focused environment.
  • Working closely with engineers from other disciplines to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems.
  • Managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to deliver cost-effective, high-quality solutions.
  • Supporting investigations into technical issues and providing effective solutions to critical problems.
  • Ensuring mechanical designs are manufacturable and supporting the continuous improvement of design processes.
  • Participating in cross-functional collaboration with local and international teams to deliver mechanical engineering excellence.
  • Driving your own professional development by staying up to date with the latest industry trends and technologies.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer in a Senior or Principal role, with a track record of leading engineering activities through the design lifecycle.
  • Expertise in 3D CAD software, preferably Creo.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to challenge ideas and solutions constructively.
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards this) with IMechE or equivalent, demonstrating UK-SPEC competencies.
  • The ability to mentor and support junior engineers, providing technical guidance and leadership.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • A minimum of an upper second-class Master's Honours degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent job-related experience.
