Position Overview
The selected candidate will play a vital role within the General Medicine Consultant team, ensuring the ongoing provision of exceptional care to patients and contributing to the enhancement of our services.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed consultant will be expected to engage in the continuous service enhancement initiatives, focusing on:
- Improving patient outcomes through the Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) initiative
- Implementing the Cost Improvement Programme (CIP)

About Our Organization

Our upcoming electronic patient record (EPR) system will replace traditional paper records, leading to improved, safer, and more integrated care.
Serving approximately 331,000 individuals across various regions, we offer a wide array of specialized, acute, obstetric, and community-based services.

Job Duties
Clinical Responsibilities
The consultant will share responsibility for inpatient care across two primary wards and participate in the frailty-in-reach rota. Responsibilities include:
- Conducting new and follow-up outpatient clinics
- Participating in the integrated general medical on-call rota
- Providing coverage for colleagues during absences
- Offering leadership and further developing the service
Organizational Responsibilities
The consultant will also be responsible for:
- Teaching and mentoring junior staff, medical students, and other healthcare professionals
- Acting as a clinical and educational supervisor for locally employed doctors
- Engaging in departmental and Trust-wide Clinical Governance and audit activities
- Supporting the effective development of services
- Ensuring participation in Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Developing clinical protocols, guidelines, and care bundles
- Upholding the Trust's Equal Opportunities Policy
- Maintaining a safe and healthy environment for all
- Conducting annual performance reviews and supporting staff development
- Participating in relevant management training
Qualifications Required
Essential Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- MRCP Part 1 and Part 2 or equivalent experience
Desirable Qualifications
- MD or PhD or evidence of equivalent training and experience

- Full Registration and a license to practice with the General Medical Council
- Inclusion on the specialist register for geriatric medicine (via CCT or CESR)
- Compliance with the Specialist generic capabilities framework
