Job Description
Job Title: Road Maintenance and Construction Specialist

Job Summary: Blue Arrow is seeking a skilled Road Maintenance and Construction Specialist to join their team in Inverness. As a key member of the Community Works team, you will be responsible for carrying out various aspects of road maintenance and construction, including winter maintenance, grounds maintenance, and heavy plant and machinery operation.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Carry out general road maintenance, including winter maintenance, to a high standard.
  • Operate heavy plant and machinery, including powered hand tools and minor plant.
  • Comply with signing, lighting, and guarding requirements for roadworks.
  • Apply bitumous materials, including slurry seal, to footpaths, bitmac macadam, and asphalt materials to roads and footpaths.
  • Construct and maintain footpaths, including kerb laying, block paving, and ironwork installation.
  • Excavate and backfill trenches for pipe culverts and drainage pipelines.
  • Avoid accidents by using equipment and tools accurately.
  • Assist higher-graded operatives in their work.
  • Work in all weather conditions.

Essential Attributes:
  • Awareness of health and safety within a working environment.
  • Experience in the construction of roads, bridges, and drainage works.
  • Skills in laying hot bitumen, kerb laying, and drainage pipe laying.
  • Accuracy in the use of powered tools, such as compressors and jack hammers.
  • A valid driving license.
  • Ability to work well in a team and independently.
  • Flexibility and a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work in difficult environments, such as outdoors or with disagreeable substances/materials.
  • A good health record.
