Lower Limb Fellowship Position

This is a fixed-term post based at University Hospitals Birmingham, with a duration of 12 months in the first instance, and the possibility of extension to 24 months subject to satisfactory performance. The post holder will work at Junior Specialist Doctor (Higher) level (equivalent to StR 3+) within Vascular Surgery.
About the RoleThe successful candidate will have the opportunity to work in a comprehensive vascular service, covering a combined population of approximately 2.4 million. The Birmingham Vascular Centre (BVC) network covers sites across Birmingham, with a consultant of the week on call rota delivering emergency vascular care. The appointee will be expected to work across all sites, including Heartlands Hospital, City, Good Hope, Sandwell, Queen Elizabeth, and Solihull Hospitals.
Key Responsibilities- Take history, examine, and record all findings of all patients admitted under the Vascular Department's care.
- Carry out and arrange all relevant investigations.
- See and examine all patients under the care of the Consultant concerned, including those in the Intensive Therapy Unit.
- Assist when required in the operating theatre.
- Attend and assist at out-patient sessions when required.
- Arrange for the transfer of patients to other hospitals or discharge home, including a discharge summary on patients transfer.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A medical degree from a recognised university.
- Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation competencies in line with GMC standards/Good Medical Practice.
- Eligibility to live and work in the UK.
- A minimum of 3 years full-time postgraduate training or equivalent experience and competencies.
- At least 2 years' experience in Vascular Surgery with an interest in Vascular Surgery, including care of acutely ill patients.
- Proficiency in basic procedures such as arterial embolectomy, arterial anastomoses, amputations of lower limbs, and routine varicose vein treatment.
