We are seeking four exceptional individuals to join our departmental board, including a chair for the audit and risk assurance committee. As a non-executive director, you will bring external expertise and experience to inform our decision-making process.

MHCLG plays a central role in the UK government's mission-driven approach, from addressing housing affordability to empowering local communities. We are looking for passionate and experienced individuals who can provide expert insight, detailed scrutiny, and constructive challenge across our work and priorities.

The successful candidates will have a responsibility to:

  • Sit on the departmental board, chaired by the Secretary of State, and other sub-committees as required;
  • Provide independent advice on policy, strategy, commercial management, people resourcing, delivery, risk, performance, and portfolio management;
  • Undertake specific project work by agreement with ministers to assess and enhance departmental performance;
  • Bring external experience and expertise to the role, challenging the board, ministers, and officials, providing an important scrutiny function;
  • Have professional credibility and authority to challenge leaders and hold them accountable;
  • Inform the Lead Non-Executive Director of any concerns.

Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum (dependent on experience).
