Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Railway Systems Specialist to join our team at Austin Fraser. As an Electrical Train Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and efficiency of our rolling stock fleets.

About the Role:

In this exciting opportunity, you will work on live rail depots as part of a team configuring and testing train systems and equipment critical to passenger and crew safety. Your tasks will include testing essential vehicle control systems, checking defect reporting systems, and ensuring the safe condition of passenger and traincrew accommodation.

Your Qualifications:

To succeed in this role, you will need a recognised apprenticeship or level 3 NVQ equivalent in an Engineering discipline. Experience in Rolling Stock is preferred but not essential. Engineers with mechanical experience from Aviation, HGV, PCV, Marine, Plant, Armed Forces, or technical industries will be considered.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Testing of essential vehicle control systems required for the movement, including the train braking system
  2. Checking of defect reporting systems designed to advise known safety defects or restrictions applicable to the movement of the Train
  3. Ensuring the presence of external equipment and systems connected to the vehicle, or in the path of the vehicle
  4. Checking the correct operation of windscreen clearing/cleaning equipment
  5. Checking the safe condition of passenger and traincrew accommodation
  6. Door systems checks
  7. Oil levels / Oil Change
  8. Water levels
  9. Diagnostics check using a laptop
  10. Bearing modifications
  11. Seating modifications / Grab rail modifications
