Job Summary


A Consultant Psychiatrist role is available in the Adult Learning Disability Service at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust.


Job Responsibilities



  • Provide psychiatric input to adults with learning disabilities living in the community
  • Attend community team referrals and complex case reviews, community team clinical governance and management meetings
  • Provide a Consultant Psychiatric service for adults with learning disabilities who may be admitted to acute inpatient mental health wards
  • Lead the collaboration with mainstream mental health services within the borough
  • Participate in the shaping of new services in light of recent and ongoing changes to the NHS

Person Specification


Essential



  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice
  • Included on the GMC specialist register or within 3 months
  • Approved under section 12(2) MHA, 1983 or within 3 months
  • Approved Clinician status or within 3 months of appointment

Desirable



  • MRCPsych or equivalent
  • Registered as a Specialist in Learning Disability Psychiatry (or CCT expected within 6 months of interview date)
  • Management training/qualifications
  • Recognized by Royal College of Psychiatrists as a specialist registrar trainer
  • Post-graduate qualification in a field related to Psychiatry, or child care

Knowledge


Essential



  • Up-to-date knowledge in management of adults with learning disability
  • Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation

Desirable



  • Specialist interest as demonstrated by publications or presentations to learned societies
  • Knowledge of current issues in national strategic direction

Experience


Essential



  • Wide clinical experience of Learning Disability and child psychiatry
  • Experience of multidisciplinary team working

Desirable



  • Experience of multi-agency work, especially with user, carer and voluntary organizations
  • Experience in medico legal work
  • Experience in service management and development

  • High level of clinical skill
  • Ability to work constructively in multidisciplinary teams and multi-agency systems
