**Job Title:** Senior Environmental Advisor

We are seeking an experienced Senior Environmental Advisor to join our team at Scottish Water.

About the Role:

This is a senior role that requires a high level of expertise in environmental regulation and compliance. As a key member of the Waste Water Strategy & Environmental Regulation Team (WWS&ER), you will be responsible for providing strategic guidance on environmental regulatory matters, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure effective implementation of environmental policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Providing strategic guidance on environmental regulatory matters, working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  2. Developing and implementing environmental policies and procedures to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  3. Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and regulatory bodies such as SEPA, NatureScot, and local authorities.
  4. Leading on specific regulatory projects, often collaborating with sub-teams within WWS&ER and working with colleagues and contractors across the organisation.
  5. Coordinating and communicating effectively with regulatory bodies such as SEPA, NatureScot, and local authorities.
  6. Ensuring that Scottish Water's activities are conducted in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, and that any non-compliance is identified and addressed promptly.

Requirements:

  • A deep understanding of European and UK environmental legislation, particularly Scottish regulations, the regulatory framework within which Scottish Water operates and environmental regulatory reporting requirements.
  • A proven track record of delivering environmental regulatory compliance and improvement programs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to interpret and apply complex environmental regulations and guidelines.
