Bangor University's School of Ocean Sciences is seeking a highly skilled Marine Ecological Historian and Research Specialist to join our team.
This exciting role will involve conducting research on the historical ecology of marine ecosystems, with a focus on understanding the complex interactions between humans and the natural environment.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in either history or science, with expertise in historical ecology and/or marine biology/ecology.
About the Role
This full-time position will be based in the School of Ocean Sciences on the Menai Bridge campus and will involve working closely with colleagues from the School of History, Law and Social Sciences.
As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for gathering and analysing data, delivering research outcomes, and administering the research project.
Main Responsibilities
- Gathering and analysis of data, including sourcing, collection, review, and extraction of historical records and modern scientific data;
- Delivering research outcomes, including contributing to publications in the sciences/humanities, project/funder reports, and dissemination of research outputs to relevant organisations;
- Administration of the research project, including data management, participating in/coordinating meetings, organising workshops, building and maintaining stakeholder engagement, social media engagement, and planning fieldwork.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A PhD (or near completion) in either history/related humanities or sciences;
- Demonstrable understanding of historical ecology/marine historical ecology;
- Experience in managing large and/or historical datasets;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Good computer skills, including MS Office, Powerpoint, Excel;
- Valid driving licence.
