Behavioural Specialist

Essex County Council is seeking a skilled Behaviour Advisor to join their Enhanced Social Care Support Team. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a multidisciplinary team, providing professional support to individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism.
About the RoleThis Behaviour Advisor role will focus on providing specialist knowledge and support to individuals, their families, and professionals. You will work within the principles of Positive Behaviour Support, developing and implementing behaviour support plans that promote quality of life outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Completing Functional Behaviour Assessments to identify the underlying causes of challenging behaviour
- Developing Positive Behaviour Support plans that are functional-based and tailored to individual needs
- Providing specialist support to individuals with learning disabilities and/or autism, and those who support them
- Attending team clinical supervision and sharing knowledge through team meetings and hybrid resources
- Effectively managing complex cases and providing behavioural guidance and support to social care staff and other professionals
- Completing written reports that reflect the needs of individuals using PBS principles to evidence person-centred recommendations
- Facilitating individual choice and empowerment through early intervention and prevention, promoting independence and applying behavioural knowledge and skills
- Working collaboratively with stakeholders, partners, and voluntary agencies to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to service delivery
- Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, policy, and guidelines on safe and best working practices
- A good level of knowledge and experience in the field of learning disabilities and/or autism, including a degree-level education in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities or a suitable alternative subject
- Strong communication skills and the ability to develop a rapport and engage with diverse groups of individuals
- Developing strong relationships with partners, other agencies, and the local community to achieve joint objectives and offer a supportive framework for children and adults
- Clear decision-making skills and an approach to behavioural support that focuses on increasing the quality of life of the individuals we support
- Experience within a social care setting with evidence of challenging social and family situations
- Evidence of working with complex caseloads underpinned by evidence-based practice
