We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Medical Equipment Specialist to join our team within the Medical Electronics department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and extending the range of services we provide.

With a strong background in electronic engineering and a specialization in medical equipment, you will ideally have prior experience working in a hospital medical engineering and maintenance environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a cost-efficient repair and maintenance service on medical equipment, including remedial repairs, Planned Preventative Maintenance, and calibration of a wide range of medical devices.

The post holder will be part of our department's monthly rotating rota, participating in daily rounds to attend to reported malfunctions and troubleshoot various types of medical equipment.

About the Role

This is a full-time post working 37 hours per week, with a competitive salary and benefits package. The successful candidate will be required to work independently and as part of a team, liaising with colleagues and providing training as needed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide a cost-efficient repair and maintenance service on medical equipment, including remedial repairs, Planned Preventative Maintenance, and calibration of a wide range of medical devices.
  • Participate in daily rounds to attend to reported malfunctions and troubleshoot various types of medical equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to provide the highest possible standards of patient care.
  • Develop and extend the range of services provided by the Medical Electronics department.
  • Plan and organize own work using own initiative and experience.
  • Continuously develop technical knowledge and skills.
  • Liaise with colleagues and provide training as needed.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Completed an approved training programme to a minimum of HND in Electronic engineering and manufacturers specialized courses or significant equivalent work experience.
  • Evidence of continuous professional and personal development (CPD).

Desirable Qualifications

  • IOSH (Institute of Safety and Heath) Certificate.
  • ECDL, European Computer Driving Licence.
  • Be a member of a professional association to Incorporated level.
  • The Register of Clinical Technologists (the RCT).

Essential Experience

  • Evidence of extensive equipment maintenance experience.
  • Specialist equipment training on complex multi-parameter medical equipment.
  • Evidence of experience gained working in a relevant healthcare environment.
  • Will ideally have some prior experience of working in a hospital medical engineering, maintenance environment.

Desirable Experience

  • Evidence of experience of maintaining a wide range of medical devices.

  • Must be able to work independently using own initiative.
  • Good communicator.
  • Versatile and receptive to training initiatives and change.
  • Have good dexterity with an eye for detail.

Knowledge

  • Fully conversant with electrical safety testing techniques.
  • Working knowledge of physiological measurement techniques and terminology.
  • Knowledge of good equipment management practice.

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to travel independently between all Trust sites.
  • Concentrated attention for micro work.
  • Speak English to an appropriate standard relevant to their role, i.e. with confidence and accuracy, using correct sentence structures and vocabulary, and without hesitation.
