Senior Research Associate in Social Anthropology

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Associate to join our team at the University of Bristol. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Social Anthropology or a relevant discipline, with a strong background in ethnographic research and a proven track record of working on interdisciplinary projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct ethnographic research among informal extractive economies in Amazonia, working closely with a remote sensing expert and a team of ethnographers.
  • Design and lead projects/work packages, with a focus on interdisciplinary research and data integration.
  • Collaborate with the Principal Investigator, research team, and software developers to co-lead the design of an interdisciplinary project workplan and analytical pipeline.
  • Carry out data collection in Amazonia on at least one of the project themes.
Requirements
  • PhD in Social Anthropology or a relevant discipline, with training in ethnographic techniques.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage in interdisciplinary collaborative work.
  • Language skills in Spanish and/or Portuguese (desirable).
What We Offer

The post is offered on a full-time basis and is funded for 3 years. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a high-profile project, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary research and collaboration.
