About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Data Officer to join our team at the Welsh Cancer Intelligence and Surveillance Unit (WCISU). As a Data Officer, you will play a critical role in the creation of the population-based national cancer registry for Wales.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in health records/information environments, with a degree-level qualification or equivalent experience. You will also hold a Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) Professional Practitioners Diploma for Cancer Registration Officers qualification and a clinical coder qualification or equivalent experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interrogate multiple data sources containing clinical and administrative data to derive a patient cancer registration in adherence to international clinical coding rules, national standards, and quality requirements.
  • Use your judgement to extract and record key information accurately, with a strong understanding of medical terminology, including anatomical and physiological terms.
  • Have a proven track record of working in a health records/data management or data research role, with a strong understanding of data standards and current data protection legislation.
  • Be highly organised, proactive, logical problem solver with well-developed planning and time management skills.
