Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Dispensary Manager to join our team at Market Harborough & Bosworth Partnership. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and accurate dispensing of medication to our patients, while also maintaining effective financial control of the dispensary.

Main Duties of the Job

As a Dispensary Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Providing mentorship and guidance to trainee dispensary staff, apprentices, and students
  • Line managing the dispensary staff in accordance with current practice policy
  • Ensuring team members complete significant event forms correctly and in a timely manner
  • Overseeing the training of new dispensers
  • Leading the team of dispensers and organizing a weekly rota or deputizing as required
  • Developing your own clinical competence, leadership, and reflective practice skills within the workplace
  • Carrying out appraisals and identifying training needs based on competencies required for the DSQS and completing the annual DSQS as required
  • Arranging staff meetings and training as required
  • Ensuring that all returned controlled drugs are disposed of and recorded correctly
  • Maintaining efficient, cost-effective stock control, minimizing wastage through out-of-date stock
  • Liaising with the Lead GP and Medicines Manager for dispensing over formularies
  • Ensuring and maintaining effective distribution of dispensing supplies to the surgery

Key Responsibilities

As a Dispensary Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Staff Management:
    • Providing mentorship and guidance to trainee dispensary staff, apprentices, and students
    • Line managing the dispensary staff in accordance with current practice policy
    • Ensuring team members complete significant event forms correctly and in a timely manner
    • Overseeing the training of new dispensers
    • Leading the team of dispensers and organizing a weekly rota or deputizing as required

  • Dispensary Management:

  • Wholesaling:
    • Becoming GDP trained by the Responsible Person and becoming a member of the wholesaling team
    • Becoming involved in weekly ordering of stock, receiving of medications, and arranging delivery invoices
    • Adhering to the GDP Training Manual and overseeing the process at both Market Harborough and Husbands Bosworth Sites

    • Participating in audit where appropriate
    • Reporting any concerns over the probity of other team members to the relevant Manager or GP as appropriate
  • General Duties:
    • Attending monthly staff meetings and other mandatory training events
    • Participating in the annual performance appraisal system and undertaking such training as is deemed necessary by the practice
    • Performing other tasks as required by the Doctors and Managers which are reasonable and in line with the principles of this job description
