**Decarbonizing the Built Environment**

We are seeking a skilled Carbon Solutions Specialist to join our Carbon Solutions team at Laing O'Rourke. As a key member of our sustainability function, you will play a critical role in helping to deliver Scotland's first fully digital and net zero carbon hospital through the Monklands Replacement Project (MRP).

**Key Responsibilities:**

  • Ensure Laing O'Rourke's best practice carbon measurement and management guidance is applied on the project.
  • Support the project team in managing the carbon measurement process and management, ensuring compliance with SHTN 02-01 Sustainable Design and Construction Guide, BREEAM, PAS 2080 and other reporting/accreditation schemes.
  • Review tender returns from our supply chain partners for compliance with client, project and LOR requirements and KPIs, such as carbon data, embodied or operational carbon targets, compliance with LOR low carbon concrete minimum requirements.
  • Compare material specifications and quantities with design information to ensure compliance with specification at construction stage, particularly focusing on high embodied carbon materials such as concrete and steel.
  • Collect A1-A3 embodied carbon data at construction stage based on information from technical disciplines.
  • Utilize One Click LCA, MS Excel and Power BI to communicate and share carbon data between project participants.
  • Communicate embodied carbon data and risks/opportunities for carbon reduction to the Sustainability, Carbon Design Manager and Project Leads.
  • Role model exemplary behaviours, demonstrating absolute alignment with our strategic business direction and expectations. Actively collaborate and 'join the dots' between the technical, procurement, commercial and sustainability teams.

**Requirements:**

  • Demonstrable interest and experience in sustainability, carbon reduction and climate change resilience.
  • Clear and effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Keen to learn and develop, contributing and sharing ideas/views to the wider team.
  • Digital literacy and numerical skills - ability to accurately collect, process and critically analyse information and large data sets and identify trends in performance.
  • Experience of carbon measurement principles and techniques / willingness to learn quickly.
  • Engineering/Architecture/Commercial or an equivalent technical or scientific degree with Master's preferred, or equivalent experience.
