Job Title: Head of Digital

The Guardian Foundation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead the management and care of our digital archive, ensuring its preservation and accessibility for future generations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the professional management and care of the digital archive, including acquisitions, appraisal, cataloguing, preservation, access, and outreach.
  • Line manage the Archivist and supervise volunteers and work experience students.
  • Manage the Calm database and digital repository, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information.
  • Maintain the archive's websites and online catalogue (Calmview), ensuring seamless user experience.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for staff and external partners on digital archive management and preservation.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Programmes and Executive Director to develop and implement the archive's strategic plan.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in digital archive management, with a strong understanding of digital preservation and access principles.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team.
  • Strong technical skills, with experience in managing digital repositories and databases.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of data protection and copyright laws, with the ability to apply this knowledge in a digital context.
