About the Role

The Principal Technical Officer will be responsible for providing technical support to the Maintenance Engineering team at Network Rail. This role will involve working with the Works Delivery Track across Scotland Route, focusing on Project Delivery throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out technical tasks, survey, and design work, ensuring safe working practices and adherence to company procedures.
  • Manage and check the quality of work delivered, confirming assets meet standards.
  • Prepare work and resource specifications, method statements, and plans, ensuring accurate and timely delivery.
  • Manage information to update systems, databases, and records, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to team members, promoting safe working behaviors and best practices.
  • Manage and supervise the delivery and output of On Track Machine operations, ensuring efficient and effective use of resources.
  • Undertake technical inspections, tests, investigations, and analysis of technical data, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Update and provide information to accurately update systems, databases, and records as required.
  • Prioritize work arising and agree work plans for the group, ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Prepare specifications and requisition for materials, ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
  • Manage processes and systems for the calibration and certification of tools and equipment, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records.
  • Contribute to your own development and that of others, promoting a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and experience of technical support activities and techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience of permanent way maintenance and construction management processes, systems, and standards.
  • Knowledge and experience of design requirements, processes, and techniques.
  • Able to demonstrate, promote, and embed safe working behaviors within the team.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Able to coach, influence, and develop others.
  • Hold and retain the competencies relevant to this post and required by business need.
  • Ideally hold or be working towards and NVQ level 3 or 4 (or equivalent) in an engineering/leadership subject.
  • Able and willing to drive vehicles as required by business need.

Please be aware that this role will involve working unsociable hours, including weekends, nights, and bank holidays, and may require working on-call.
