We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager to lead our team in delivering a significant programme of infrastructure investment on the Devonport site. The role will involve working closely with multiple stakeholders to ensure successful project implementation.

The 'Major Infrastructure Projects' Business Unit has been established to support this programme, which includes establishing a defuel capability for out-of-service submarines. This work comprises several interrelated projects to develop various multi-disciplinary infrastructure systems, with an overall value in excess of £100m.

The Dock Readiness project is delivering the infrastructure upgrades for the existing dry dock that will be used for submarine defuels. This dry dock is located within a nuclear licensed site, requiring careful management of technical aspects.

This role is part of the Engineering Team responsible for delivering designs for multiple work packages as part of the Dock Readiness project. As Senior Civil Engineering Project Manager, you will assist and support the Design Manager in delivering project scope, ensuring timely completion, quality, and cost-effectiveness.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To manage civil / structural engineering work packages to required scope, quality, schedule, and cost.
  • Responsible for managing technical aspects of engineering packages from identification to handover.
  • Manage one or more technical design packages agreeing project-related objectives, designer performance, and making appropriate technical management responses.
  • Ensure design documentation covers scope of operations required by Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule, and budget.
  • Plan effective project implementation, identifying key factors, and leading project's technical planning process.
  • Document processes and activities being managed with records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied.
  • Ensure staff and contractors are familiar with hazards and risks associated with work undertaken through effective management and communication of Risk Assessment.

Requirements:

  • Design and substantiation of heavy civil engineering and building structures to relevant seismic codes for satisfying Nuclear Safety Functions, particularly experience in dock structures.
  • Knowledge of architectural design of industrial buildings.
  • Knowledge of building services design and installation.
  • Relevant knowledge and skills required in technical management of complex design development throughout design lifecycle.
  • A track record in Structural / Civil design in comparable environment.
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary environment with multiple interfaces.
  • Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post, and project requirements.
  • Sound understanding of Company and departmental procedures relating to Design, Health & Safety, and Quality requirements.
  • Experience of design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities.
  • A professional level of competence in documentation, calculation, and drawings (CAD by others).
  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering computer applications.
  • Ability to follow engineering process and maintain accurate records and document/drawing revision control.
