The National Rifle Association of the UK is a registered charity with a Royal Charter, valuing its military heritage and close links with the UK Armed Forces. This alignment supports the charity's objectives.
This role represents some 53,000 marksmen and markswomen across the NRA membership and affiliated organisations. The charity has annual consolidated income exceeding £10 million.
About this opportunity:
We are seeking an experienced leader to manage and oversee the NRA and its commercial subsidiary, the National Shooting Centre Limited. As Charter Secretary, you will be responsible for implementing the overall vision for the charity in collaboration with the Trustees.
You will develop long-term strategies and business plans for both entities, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. This includes Charities legislation, financial management, programme development, and stakeholder engagement.
The successful candidate will oversee all operations, including financial management, staff motivation, and external relationships. They will also represent the NRA as ambassador and public face for campaigns and build relationships with stakeholders in national and local government, the wider shooting community, media, and business.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute strategic plans aligning objectives with annual budgets.
- Establish and maintain relationships with political, military, and governmental stakeholders.
- Monitor key performance indicators to assess financial health and organisational impact.
- Oversee all operations, including financial management and HR policy adherence.
- Represent the NRA and NSC as a national governing body and important voice for the shooting community.
Personal Responsibilities
- Range Safety Certificates: Ensure the safety of Bisley rifle ranges with guidance from professional staff.
- Competency & Training Certificates: Guarantee shooters' qualifications on Bisley and MoD ranges.
- Registered Firearms Dealer / Explosives Licence: Manage firearms, ammunition, and components.
- Home Office Authorities: Maintain permissions for specialised firearms use.
- Member Director, British Shooting: Represent the NRA in Olympic and Paralympic Shooting activities.
- Council Member, British Shooting Sports Council: Represent NRA interests in the wider shooting community.
What We Offer
A competitive package including salary £110,000 - £125,000 dependent on experience, excellent benefits package, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Your Skills and Experience
- Degree in a relevant field (e.g., finance, business)
- Proven track record of managing medium to large organisations
- Substantial experience developing organisational strategy, driving growth, and managing change
- Experience working collaboratively with Boards
- Risk identification and management
- People management, especially senior management teams
