Job Title: Sensory Support BSL Teaching Assistant

Job Description:

Prospero Teaching is working with a specialist Sensory Support Unit in Levenshulme. They are recruiting for a Special Needs Teaching Assistant to support primary students in the sensory support unit. The ideal candidate will have experience of working with children in the Early Years and children with additional needs. A basic level of sign language is required for this role. The successful candidate will work with two pupils who are deaf and attend the school nursery each afternoon. They will need to have an understanding of the early years curriculum and be able to work off plans prepared by the teacher to support the two students on their own each afternoon. The role will start as soon as possible and will be for the rest of the current academic year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support primary students in the sensory support unit
  • Work with children in the Early Years and children with additional needs
  • Have a basic level of sign language
  • Work with two pupils who are deaf and attend the school nursery each afternoon
  • Have an understanding of the early years curriculum
  • Work off plans prepared by the teacher to support the two students on their own each afternoon

Requirements:
  • Degree educated with a good classification, in English
  • High grade in English & Maths at GCSE level
  • A level in English Literature or Language
  • Basic level of British Sign Language
  • Previous experience working with young people (desirable but not essential)
  • Up to date Safeguarding training issued in the last year (essential, however training can be provided)
  • Up to date prevent awareness training issued in the last 3 years (essential, however, training can be provided)

Eligibility:
  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced DBS registered on the update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide professional references to cover the last 2 years
