Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Fitter to join our key Rail clients based in Somerset on a permanent basis.

As a Fitter, you will be working on a varied shift pattern and will be offered a competitive starting salary of £45,500.

We are looking for fitters from a heavy engineering background, including ex-forces personnel. Your role will involve various tasks such as:

  • Maintaining, servicing, fault-finding, and repairing locomotives in accordance with approved maintenance plans.
  • Ensuring the Asset Management system and relevant paperwork is completed on time and to the required standard.
  • Performing pre-use checks on tooling and equipment.
  • Completing all relevant AMS work for examinations and repairs on time and to the required company standards.
  • Participating in relevant training and competency assessments.
  • Attending safety, quality, and technical briefings as required.
  • Undertaking general duties relative to cleanliness of workshop areas, mess room, toilets etc., ensuring high standards of workshop husbandry are maintained.
  • Top-up fuel and sand levels of the locomotive at the end of the day.

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • An engineering qualification, preferably to HNC standard in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in Traction & Rolling Stock maintenance, repair, and fault-finding.
  • The ability to make sound engineering decisions.
  • Basic communication skills, written and oral.
