About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team at Sky. As a key member of our Group Communications and Infrastructure team, you will play a crucial role in designing, building, and maintaining the telecoms networks across the whole Sky Group.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop Python applications with a focus on efficiency and scalability.
  • Participate in design reviews and validate user stories to ensure feasibility and practicality.
  • Build data models and interact with databases to ensure data integrity and consistency.
  • Use Docker, GIT, Quality gates, linting, and other tools to develop, test, and deploy code quickly and efficiently.
  • Work closely with local and offshore colleagues to share and document standard methodologies.
  • Perform code peer review and provide constructive criticism to ensure code quality standards are maintained.
Requirements
  • Experience in interacting with networking devices, routers, or software modules designing.
  • Experience in mentoring junior Python engineers.
  • Python 3 experience with OOP design and database integration (MySQL, Mongo) direct and/or via ORM.
  • Solid experience with caching and scheduling (e.g. redis and celery) and ability to work with concurrency, multithreading, and IPC.
  • Good knowledge of common data structures and algorithms and when to use them and their implementations.
  • Experience with Python XML libraries, including DOM navigation and JSON data structures.
  • Good hands-on experience with software version control (especially GIT) and ability to work with a large repo.
  • Good communication skills and ability to explain logic and challenge the logic of others.
  • Ability to read and understand programmatic flow (e.g. sequence diagrams).
  • Experience with OpenAPI and ability to implement 'self-documenting' REST APIs.
  • Strong experience in automated unit and integration testing.
  • Experience in working in an agile environment, including Scrum and agile ticketing systems like Jira.
Nice to Have
  • Accredited CCNA/CCNP level of networking experience.
  • Good understanding of CRUD operations using Netconf, CLI, and SNMP and data modelling with help of YANG.
  • Good understanding of templating tools like JINJA.
