Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. As a lead pharmacist in diabetes and endocrinology, you will play a key role in developing and implementing clinical pharmacy services within the speciality.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Lead the provision and development of clinical pharmacy services within diabetes and endocrinology, working closely with the endocrine multidisciplinary team.
  2. Undertake prescribing within a defined speciality, and as part of wider medicines optimisation initiatives undertaken by the clinical pharmacy service.
  3. Provide expert advice and information on new drugs and new treatment strategies in the area of responsibility, evaluating and interpreting published evidence.
  4. Monitor information on drug expenditure/prescribing patterns and advise consultants, senior pharmacy managers and general managers on clinical economy within the area of responsibility.
  5. Monitor compliance and advise on the implementation of National Guidance NICE.
  6. Advise the speciality management team on service and product developments, and contribute to the planning and implementation of any changes in practice.
  7. Undertake clinical pharmacy practice at an advanced level.
  8. Train and counsel patients in the self-administration of medicines in defined circumstances.
  9. Provide training to Trainee Pharmacists and Clinical Pharmacists, including tutoring for the MSc/Diploma in clinical pharmacy and being a Designated Supervisor.
  10. Participate in clinical audit and other initiatives aimed at assuring high quality prescribing and pharmacy practice, within the context of Quality Governance.
  11. Provide training and education to other healthcare professionals.
  12. Provide professional supervision to technical and supporting staff, and undertake the role of Responsible Pharmacist when required.
  13. Contribute to the delivery and development of clinical pharmacy services across the Trust.
  14. Actively participate within the multi-disciplinary and clinical pharmacy team.
  15. Act as a source of expert advice on prescribing and medicines optimisation to medical and nursing staff within the Care Unit/Speciality.

Person Specification

We are looking for a pharmacist with:

  • Essential qualifications: Degree, Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy, Independent Prescriber.
  • Desirable qualifications: Advanced Practice Qualification, Formal Leadership Qualification.
  • Essential experience: 2 Years Post Registration Experience in acute hospital, experience and knowledge in diabetes and endocrinology, CPD and knowledge of NICE guidelines in diabetes/endocrinology, investigation of medicines safety incidents, consultant ward rounds, cost and quality prescribing.
  • Desirable experience: Experience using EPMA, experience of staff appraisal, experience of change management.
