Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Archives Development Adviser to join our team at the Welsh Government.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing policy advice to Ministers on local archive provision and contributing to the development of future policy and strategy on archives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Administer the Archive Service Accreditation scheme in Wales and carry out advisory and validation visits to services participating in the Accreditation scheme.
  • Take responsibility for Section 60 schemes of the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994 to support the Minister to discharge the statutory duties.
  • Liaise with The National Archives (UK, England and Wales) on matters such as the management of the Public Records Act 1958 in Wales.
  • Develop and manage programmes and projects to support the development of the archive sector in Wales.
  • Monitor associated budgets and expenditure.
  • Advise on and assess applications to funding streams administered by Culture Division.
  • Build relationships and work effectively with a range of partners from the archive sector in Wales and more widely.
  • Prepare ministerial advice and briefings, draft responses to correspondence and enquiries, and attend ministerial visits as required.
  • Provide advice to colleagues within the Welsh Government on matters affecting archives.

  • Recognised postgraduate qualification in Archive Administration.
  • Leadership, making effective decisions, working together, communicating, and influencing.
