Unlocking Personalization Excellence

We're seeking a highly skilled Machine Learning Scientist to join our Personalization team in Edinburgh. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and deploying cutting-edge personalized recommendation models. This is a hands-on role with a global impact, working closely with a team of world-class engineers and scientists across Edinburgh and the wider organization.

You will lead the design of machine learning models that scale to massive datasets, serving high-scale, low-latency recommendations to customers worldwide. You will embody scientific rigor, designing and executing experiments to demonstrate the technical efficacy and business value of your methods. You will collaborate with our science team to enhance customer satisfaction by improving recommendation relevance and raise the profile of Amazon as a global leader in machine learning and personalization.

Successful candidates will possess strong technical expertise, a customer-first approach, excellent teamwork and communication skills, and a drive to achieve results in a fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop machine learning algorithms for high-scale recommendation problems.
  2. Rapidly design, prototype, and test multiple hypotheses in a high-ambiguity environment, utilizing both quantitative analysis and business judgment.
  3. Collaborate with software engineers to integrate successful experimental results into large-scale, complex Amazon production systems capable of handling 100,000s of transactions per second at low latency.
  4. Report results in a manner that is both statistically rigorous and compellingly relevant, exemplifying good scientific practice in a business environment.

Basic Qualifications

  1. PhD, or a Master's degree and experience in CS, CE, ML, or a related field.
  2. Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
  3. Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or a related language.
  4. Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing.
  5. Experience in building machine learning models for business applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience using Unix/Linux.
  2. Experience in professional software development.
