Job Summary

Purpose of Job

Support pupils with special educational needs to access learning and provide general support to teachers in managing pupils, both in and out of the classroom.

Key Objectives

  1. Support pupils to understand instructions and encourage independent learning.
  2. Attend to pupils' additional needs and assist in implementing related personal programmes.
  3. Provide learning activities for individuals and groups of pupils under the direction of a qualified teacher.
  4. Prepare the learning environment and clear up after lessons.
  5. Assist with planning and preparation of activities and delivery of local and national initiatives.
  6. Provide short-term cover supervision of classes.
  7. Assess, record, and report on pupils' development, progress, and attainment.
  8. Support pupils in social and emotional well-being.
  9. Assist with displaying pupils' work.
  10. Develop and maintain positive communication with parents.
  11. Supervise pupils throughout the day, including in the classroom, playground, and dining areas.
  12. Escort and supervise pupils on educational activities.


Scope

Have familiarity with relevant EHCP and SEND documents for individual children. Prepare and maintain equipment and resources as directed. Select and adapt resources to facilitate learning activities. Monitor and record pupil responses and learning achievements. Support teachers in managing pupil behaviour and ensure equal access to opportunities for all pupils.

Work Profile

Work with teachers in lesson planning, evaluating, and adjusting lessons. Establish good relationships with pupils, parents, and colleagues. Prepare and present displays. Encourage pupils to interact with others constructively. Attend to pupils' personal needs and implement related personal programmes. Undertake record-keeping and gather/report information from/ to parents as directed. Adhere to school, local, and national guidelines and policies. Participate in training and other learning activities. Contribute to the overall ethos and work of the school.
