Biffa is a leading waste management company that seeks to revolutionize the way people think about waste. As an Engineering Apprentice (Mechatronics) at Biffa in Ipswich, you will be part of a team that is dedicated to providing sustainable solutions for waste management.
The Engineering Technician Apprenticeship (Mechatronics pathway) is a 3-4 year program that will equip you with a wide range of skills in electrical, mechanical, and controls. You will spend time both on site and at Colchester Institute on a day release schedule, gaining hands-on experience and theoretical knowledge.
As a member of the Resources & Energy division, you will focus on the treatment, recycling, and disposal of waste. Your role will involve efficiently carrying out preventive and reactive maintenance, examination of and fault finding on plant and equipment, and servicing activities on a hazardous waste site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide high operational availability and an efficient breakdown repair service.
- Carry out installation work to the required standards.
- Ensure productivity and availability exceed minimum defined standards, while driving best practice and continuous improvement in cost control and operations.
- Develop and implement a program of planned preventative maintenance and inspection to minimize downtime.
- Carry out minor maintenance operations to plant and equipment.
- Liaise with external contractors on specific repairs/maintenance work.
- Keep abreast of changes to health & safety and environmental legislation and Company policies.
- Ensure compliance with all Company policies, processes, and procedures.
