About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy Ward Manager to join our Child and Adolescent Mental Health Inpatient Service at Brookside in Goodmayes, Ilford, Essex.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the nursing team on a shift-by-shift basis, under the guidance of the Ward Manager.
  • Complete clinical audits and contribute to governance processes.
  • Deputise for the Ward Manager in their absence, including chairing meetings and undertaking management roles.
  • Manage HR systems, including staffing, sickness, performance-related issues, and annual leave reporting.
  • Provide clinical and safeguarding supervision, and mentor junior staff and students.
  • Complete a 5-day Prevention and Management of Violence and Aggression course and implement best practices.
  • Work shifts over a 365-day basis, including night duty.
  • Assess client needs and support nurses in formulating individual care plans.
  • Ensure effective communication with relatives and carers of service users.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communication around a young person's care.
  • Take steps to maintain the safety and welfare of staff, patients, and the ward.

Requirements
  • Registered Mental Health Nurse with a degree and evidence of Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
  • Extensive experience working with people with complex, acute mental health needs and challenging behaviors.
  • Ability to perform under pressure, making timely clinical decisions and following agreed care pathways.
  • Knowledge of the 1983 Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, and related legislation, codes of practice, and guidance.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the Care Programme Approach and medication management.
