About the Role

St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic Microbiology team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting a range of laboratory tests and procedures to diagnose and monitor infectious diseases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct microbiological tests and procedures to diagnose and monitor infectious diseases.
  • Rotate through various sections of the Bacteriology laboratory under the supervision of the Senior BMS.
  • Participate in a 24/7 shift system, including weekend, night, late, and bank holiday working as part of hours.
  • Develop and maintain a high level of knowledge and expertise in microbiology and related laboratory procedures.

About the Team

The Microbiology department at St George's is a UKAS accredited laboratory, providing a comprehensive range of microbiological services to patients and healthcare professionals. Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care and contributing to the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.

Person Specification

  • An honours degree or equivalent in a biological science, HCPC Registration, experience working in an accredited medical laboratory.
  • Demonstrable evidence of working in a medical laboratory, evidence of continuing professional development, evidence of team working, knowledge of health and safety issues, experience of quality management systems.
