Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Linux Systems Engineer to join our team at Sopra Steria Limited. As a key member of our Infrastructure team, you will be responsible for leading a team of Linux engineers and providing technical expertise in the design, build, and maintenance of mission-critical systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage incidents, requests, and changes within the Linux team and conduct regular one-on-one meetings with team members to identify training requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to design, build, and maintain complex systems, ensuring seamless operations across a large Enterprise estate.
  • Maintain and produce technical documentation to facilitate knowledge sharing and skills development within the team.
  • Represent the team at key ITIL process touch points, including change advisory boards, problem management, technical design authority, and major incident management.
  • Provide hands-on engineering support and expertise to complex technical activities, such as root cause analysis, troubleshooting, project recovery/remediation plans, and technical risk assessments.
  • Work with engineers to ensure that infrastructure is maintained with the latest firmware and software requirements.
Requirements
  • Working experience in Ansible Automation Platform version 2.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux Operating Systems, including RedHat Enterprise Linux and derivatives (6, 7, 8, and 9).
  • Working knowledge of Ansible and Git, including command-line, Gitlab, or Bitbucket.
  • Working knowledge of Virtualisation, such as VMware ESXi 7.x.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with Red Hat Satellite 6 and above.
  • Knowledge of Unix Storage filesystems and access protocols (XFS/NFS), specifically LVM2.
  • Solid understanding of Linux scripting and command-line usage, including bash.
  • Working experience with Anti-Virus within Linux OS.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience involving multiple Operating System vendors.
  • Working knowledge of Atlassian tools, including Confluence and Jira.
  • Knowledge of HPE Storage Technologies (FC/iSCSI/NFS protocols).
  • Knowledge of LAN/WAN Technologies.
  • Experience in increasing automation in management, deployment, and operations of servers, providing Proof-of-Concepts for cloud-like functionality and edge datacentres, and looking into providing a solution for in-memory computing.
  • RHCSA certification on RedHat.
