Job Introduction

Tarmac Trading Limited is seeking an experienced Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter to join our team based out of our Whitwood Contracting Plant in Castleford, near Leeds, covering the Yorkshire region.

Key Responsibilities
  • Respond to plant breakdowns, ensuring assets are returned to production in a timely manner, and temporary fixes are followed up with a permanent solution.
  • Undertake emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient way on all production equipment.
  • Own small-scale projects and deliver them in a pragmatic and proactive manner.
  • Take a cost-conscious approach to maintenance activities and coordinate with contractors and suppliers when they are on site.
  • Participate in root cause analysis to eliminate repeat failures.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the engineering function through personal observations and experience.
  • Work with risk assessments and method statements, and contribute to the preparation and development of safe working methods for repair procedures.
  • Maintain and promote Health & Safety rules and regulations, following all company processes and procedures.
  • Utilize the computerized maintenance management system and record all work, including fault descriptions, spares used, and repairs carried out.
Requirements
  • Recognized apprenticeship (preferably a higher-level standard).
  • ONC/HNC (desirable but not essential).
  • Strong, practical mechanical systems background, heavy industry preferred - conveyors, drive systems, motors, belts, pumps, gearboxes, crushers, vibratory screens.
  • Experience of welding and fabricating to a good standard and able to remove and fit bearings.
  • Fault-finding ability to identify defects and recommend appropriate action.
  • Capability to undertake emergency breakdown repairs in a timely and efficient manner on all production equipment.
  • Good IT skills - capable of using PCs, common applications, and company systems.
  • Competence in the use of application-based inspection schemes.
  • Ability to assess SHE risks arising from work activities and control risks accordingly.
  • Knowledge of site-specific SHE procedures and Safe Working Practices.
  • Flexibility to attend plant-specific training courses and workshops, as well as a positive approach to travel across the Yorkshire region.
  • Suitable candidates for the role of Mobile Mechanical Plant Fitter will possess CPC or be willing to train.
