Job Description

We are seeking a skilled mechanical design engineer to join our design engineering team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing equipment concepts and schemes that meet customer requirements. Solidworks will be used to create detail drawings and material schedules.

This role involves:

  • Designing and developing specialised machinery to meet customer expectations;
  • Assisting with the preparation of design proposals, tenders, and documents;
  • Reporting problems and deficiencies in the design brief and developing pragmatic cost-effective solutions;
  • Producing technical information, drawings, and associated schedules and documents;
  • Maintaining drawing files and records throughout the project duration;
  • Liaising with colleagues to resolve day-to-day problems with the CAD/PDM system;
  • Attending visits with customers to commission and test machines;
  • Liaising with suppliers and distributors;
  • Ensuring as-built specifications are recorded and system functions are tested and proven prior to commissioning;
Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you should have:

  • A degree level or HNC/D qualification in mechanical engineering or design discipline;
  • Experience in 3D modelling with SolidWorks (PDM knowledge desirable);
  • At least 2 years of design experience (graduates considered);
  • Packaging industry knowledge or special purpose machine design would be an advantage;
  • Knowledge of CE and Health & Safety legislation;
  • Understanding of continuous improvement techniques;
  • Organised and pragmatic problem-solving skills;
  • Project management skills and risk assessment abilities;
  • Ability to negotiate and positively influence customers during the project process;
