The Opportunity

UAL's Technical Resources team is seeking a Specialist Technician with exceptional photography knowledge and skills to join us on a part-time basis.

As a key member of our team, you will provide technical support to our photography department and programme, utilizing our state-of-the-art facilities, including black and white and colour processing darkrooms, flash and continuous lighting studios, and digital scanning and inkjet printing services.

You will lead and deliver learning activities, offering expert guidance and technical advice in photography image capture, helping students identify and access appropriate techniques, processes, materials, resources, and equipment to meet learning outcomes.

In addition, you will assist in the day-to-day management of our photography studios and darkrooms, including booking and maintaining specialist facilities. This role involves evening cover for our technical facilities, including two late-night openings.

About You

You will possess a comprehensive understanding of photographic image capture across both analogue and digital formats, including experience with colour and black and white darkrooms, film processing, and studio lighting techniques.

Health and Safety is a critical aspect of this role, and student welfare is of the utmost importance. You will demonstrate excellent knowledge of H&S requirements and the ability to manage your workload and communicate effectively with students and staff.

Experience in teaching and/or demonstrating photographic equipment and techniques is essential, along with an understanding of photographic production methods and techniques.
