About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to work as a staff nurse on Yew ward, a 12-bedded male acute unit. The successful candidate will be part of the nursing team and will be responsible for providing person-centered support to service users.

Main Duties
  • Administering medication and aiding service users' recovery
  • Working closely with service users on individualized risk reduction work
  • Building a therapeutic relationship with service users and supporting them in all tasks of daily life
  • Delegating tasks and planning the daily nursing board to ensure safe running of the ward
  • Facilitating 1-to-1 sessions and building a rapport with service users
  • Completing risk reduction work with service users, such as substance misuse, coping skills, and mindfulness
  • Participating in staff meetings and workers meetings
  • Completing key nurse paperwork in a timely manner, including care plans, risk assessments, and reading of MHA rights
  • Working closely with the wider MDT, including psychology and social work
  • Supervising healthcare support workers on the ward
  • Supporting service users with self-care and limited personal care
  • Supporting service users to build on their skills and promote quality of life
  • Keeping up to date on mandatory and essential training
Person Specification
  • Ability to demonstrate experience of working in a wide range of healthcare settings
  • Experience of working within a forensic setting
  • Possess a first-level qualification, Part 3/13/RNLD, of the NMC Register
  • A willingness to undertake further training as appropriate to Forensic Nursing Services
  • Possess or be working towards a relevant teaching and assessing qualification
  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge of the Mental Health Act, with particular reference to Part 3
  • Demonstrate an awareness/understanding of forensic mental health legislation framework and relevant national policy
  • Demonstrate an awareness/understanding of the evidence that underpins the care and treatment of mental health problems, autism, ADHD, and learning disabilities
