Medical Microbiologist and Infection Service Specialist

A challenging opportunity has arisen for a Medical Microbiologist to join our 24-hour Clinical Infection Service as a key member of a multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will contribute to the delivery of high-quality patient care, service development, and strategic partnerships.
About the Role
This replacement post is offered on a full-time basis with potential for part-time applications, with prorated on-call commitments considered. The role encompasses a wide range of complex and interesting cases across various hospital sites, including The Mid Yorkshire Regional Adult Burns Centre, Regional Children's Burns Unit, and Yorkshire Regional Spinal Injuries Centre. Key responsibilities include supervision and liaison with laboratory teams, participation in mandatory surveillance, and development of services such as outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), undergraduate teaching, and research.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for working effectively alongside clinical colleagues to provide a comprehensive infection service, including:
- Liaising with the local UKHSA team for notifiable diseases/organisms and participating in mandatory surveillance.
- Developing services, including OPAT, undergraduate teaching, and research.
- Supervision and liaison with laboratory teams.
Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must hold a medical degree from a recognised medical school and possess a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Microbiology or be within six months of award by the date of interview. A wide experience of working within a microbiology department is essential, with personal contributions to service development and academic prizes being desirable.
